Pott’s House

Pott’s House

When I have some downtime, I like to relax and paint architecture. In this case, I painted Pott’s House, the house that General George Washington used as his headquarters while at Valley Forge during the Revolutionary War.

When I get the urge to paint a structure, I visit the web to find an image that I want to create. In this case, I wanted to find a building made with bricks. While “googling” I found the Pott’s family home in Valley Forge, PA. While researching this house, I discovered that the Potts’ were friends with General George Washington and allowed him to use the home as his Headquarters while his troops camped at Valley Forge during the American Revolution.

When I say I painted this house, I actually mean I digitally painted this image. I use Photoshop to help me set up the reference image. In this case, I added the clouds and sky to this “original image” and adjusted the image to remove any photographic artifacts. I then painted this image in Corel Painter. I really enjoy using this app’s brushes to help me create my image. If you click to enlarge my final image you can see how I used Painter to add some more detail to each of the bricks of this structure.

The image below are just a few more structures I painted…
